What's New With The Huskies
Dana Brejakova, Contributing Writer & Photographer

"Runways optional", my top favorite sticker on the fridge that sums it all. And uh-oh, Dana is going to say it again, "The Huskies are the best bush planes in the whole wide world!" Yes, I have already said it 1,098 times. But, hey, who is counting?

Because Jimmy the Squirrel, Dennis, and a few our friends own these fine airplanes, I am naturally biased towards them. Built for rugged environments, docile, sturdy, and forgiving; Huskies stole my heart four years ago. It goes without a saying that we love our Huskies for what they are and for what they represent. Anyone who owns and flies these marvelous dawgs knows what I am talking about.

I have been following the official Aviat Aircraft page on social media for some time when one day a fantastic variation of the Husky insignia jumped on me from my news feed. This very cool cartoon with a Husky dog being all super happy with his tongue out and eyes peeled back in the wind made me squeal, "I must have this! At least on a sticker!" Since then, I was on a hunt to buy that design on a sticker, T-shirt, or a hat. The official website with merchandise did not have those and I knew I had to aim for the big happenings such as SunN'Fun or AirVenture. Luckily enough, we made it to AirVenture Oshkosh this year which was a sweet getaway we all enjoyed to the max. Apart from our usual activities, I was excited to check the Aviat Husky booth not only to complete my mission of getting my sticker but to also check what was new in the Husky house. Priority number one: Aviat Husky booth. "Come on, guys! Hurry up!", I was herding everyone while marching fast towards the booth. Aggie (our Australian sheepherder at the farm) would be very proud of me.

"Wow, they have an amphibian dog on display!", I noticed the unmistakable silhouette from the far and zoomed in on the beautiful airplane while squinting into the sun. Wait a minute, look at the tail! Was that the Husky design I wanted so bad? YES, it was! Splendid! I do not need to mention that a shopping spree was in order. As we got to the booth, I ran straight to the cash desk to buy my souvenirs and Jimmy the Squirrel with our friends caught up with RAF Team members who were checking the bush planes on display. The lady who was selling the merchandise in the booth was very nice and as we exchanged emails, I discovered she was the creative force behind this magnificent STOLDawg logo. Maybe you have heard about her or saw her name - Sue Haun. Inspired by dogs who love sticking their head out of the window when riding in a car, Sue created STOLDawg who loves bush flying and is the happiest when he can enjoy the flight in the Aviat Husky with the door down. Ka-boom! A sound my mind makes when it is blown. From my humble opinion, Sue's talent in cartoon designing is a fabulous match for the Aviat Aircraft. As can be seen, Aviat Aircraft has been encouraging expression of pilot's personal style through customizing the countless paint schemes and colors variations, instrument panels, seats styling, propeller and tire options. And check this out, when you buy your Husky and would like a similar fun Husky dog logo, the team will work with you on the modification and will create a very original alternation just for you and your Aviat Husky. Double ka-boom! After meeting Shawn (Aviat Aircraft, Regional Sales Director and Owner of Husky Central out of Hugo, Oklahoma) and Sue Haun (Creative Director for Aviat Aircraft) at the booth, I could not believe what all ended up in my backpack! I was so happy and energized I dropped my lunch sandwich on the grass when I was trying to shuffle all my precious stickers.

How adorable is this Husky dawg? One of the rarest stickers is now on my notepad and I cannot stop bragging about this one.
Amphibian Aviat Husky A-1C getting ready for the AirVentrue. Very cool shots taken by
Sue Haun.
Shawn flying the beautiful amphibian Aviat Husky A-1C 200 to AirVenture. Wheeled or on floats, these airplanes stole my heart. Another wonderful photo taken by Sue who kindly offered it for the article. Thank you, Sue.
And there she was welcoming all curious visitors, us included. I must admit, apart from all those great looking paint jobs you can find on Huskies, this classic red and white with accents of black is still one of my favorites.
Peeking in to check the panel out: Garmin GTX 345, Garmin GI-275 Attitude Indicator, and G760 Touch Screen GPS with the MVP-50 Digital Engine Monitor - nice to see the new Aviat Huskies coming out with modern avionics.
A more detailed peek into the cockpit of the amphibian Aviat Husky A-1C 200,
documented by Sue.
Here we go, the STOLDawg logo on the tail that I have been chasing since I first saw it on social media. A super stoked Husky, water dawg, that cannot wait to make a splash in the water on an amphibian airplane is a pure genius.
I loved this STOLDawg logo so much I had to have three different angles.
Beautiful amphibian, isn't she?
Another airplane representing the Aviat Aircraft manufacturer was this gorgeous 2022 Husky A-1C 180. Resting on 29" Tundra Tires and equipped with a modern Garmin panel, this bird offered a very much appreciated shade where we all happily continued our friendly chat with Shawn. Is there anything better than talking about bush planes under the wing of Aviat Husky at AirVenture Oshkosh?
Detail of the classic Aviat Husky design which is pretty cool too. I have always been a fan of the Husky dog insignia. Whether it is the one in a circle or this bigger one, I love them all.
Do not forget the Aviat Aircraft Eagle II - the famous Eagle kit that set the standard for homebuilt aerobatic airplanes. Iconic paint job on this bi-plane is always a lens magnet while hanging out in the Husky booth.
Enjoying refreshing beverage wrapped in another awesome artwork designed by Sue.

To sum up, we felt welcome and at home with the Huskies which made me contemplate on these fine airplanes again. Soon enough, many happy memories of many wonderful adventures we created flying our bush planes overwhelmed me. So here is to Aviat Huskies - our beloved dawgs.

Aviat Husky A-1C on the display back in 2021 AirVenture. Another super cool paint job that hypnotized my lens.
You will always find at least one Husky on the field when you visit STOL Competitions. This one was a STOL Competition in Hondo, TX, 2018.
Simple and classy. Snow white Aviat Husky only with a few black details. How about this charming contestant at the 2018 Hondo STOL competition?
These are probably the biggest donuts I have ever seen! Those tundra tires were huge! I could only imagine landing on those. It probably felt like diving into a big soft duvet.
And this Husky just went and hopped above the cloud somewhere in Texas during one beautiful afternoon.
Three great looking Huskies on the flight line. This was a trip with our friends to AirVenture Oshkosh, 2019. On the way to AirVenture we stopped in Middleton, WI to spend a wonderful time at the Rock the Ramp Fly-In.
This one is from a trip when two Aviat Huskies were set free above picturesque landscape of the Ozarks in Arkansas during fall in 2019. Spontaneous little fly-around turned into a lovely Husky chase. A snap shot from one of my dearest memories that assured me my heart was well invested with these bush planes. Just two great bush pilots and one Czech Chick Selfie Stick (my call sign) on the back seat were having a blast chasing the late afternoon sun.
Slightly different landscape and a time of year but still the same airplane. Our friend in his Aviat Husky on the way to AirVenture Oshkosh, 2019.
Jimmy's Aviat Husky patiently waiting by the pecan orchard where Jimmy has a landing strip. She is not only our fun bush flying dawg, she also works hard on a farm just like we do.
Gila Backcountry Fly-In, 2022. Detail of Jimmy's Aviat Husky tail with the green hills of the Gila Forest, NM as a charming background. Organized by New Mexico Pilots Association together with RAF, Gila Backcountry Fly-In is one of the most beautiful and genuine Fly-Ins and our Huskies know it.
Our friend Dennis on a roll to take-off. That was our trip from El Paso, TX to the Gila in 2022. What a great looking Husky and what a sweet get-away for us all.
Nature, wide open spaces, well-maintained forest air strips, and two happy Huskies. Shout out to RAF (Recreational Aviation Foundation) and the New Mexico Pilots Association! Thanks to all their hard work and effort, we can have our sweet escapes and enjoy the outdoors we love so much.
And if you want to know what happens to you up there when experiencing bush flying in Aviat Husky, let's just skip the thousand words that would not describe this marvel anyway, and instead let this shot summarize it all. Pure joy!
