The World Famous Maho Beach
Flying Journalism, Contributing Writer & Photographer

The famous Sint Maarten (Dutch side) and Saint Martin (French side) is located in the eastern Caribbean. With an open border for the Dutch and French side, the island is filled with fun adventures from every angle.

All over the world people recognize this island for it's famous picturesque beaches with planes flying overhead at any given moment. There are two bars/restaurants located on each end of the famous Maho Beach. Here, you can enjoy a meal and a MaiTai while watching the planes fly right over your head!

The Airport has a double fence in place to help keep people at a safe distance. This was put here because people have been previously injured holding on to the fence. One bystander said, "it feels like you're getting sandblasted while standing on the beach." Many people lose hats and sunglasses from the jet blast.

The coconut stand is the place to go if you are looking for the schedule of arrivals and departures. Once you know the schedule of your favorite plane, you could wait around or come back to spot the aircraft of choice. The most famous bird of all was the KLM 747. However, the 747 no longer flies into St. Maarten (it was replaced with the A330 in 2016).

People sit here for hours.
Jim was visiting from Canada. He said, "I love it at Maho Beach, I can stay here all day!"

The airport is known as Princess Juliana International Airport. Named after the Dutch Queen Juliana when she visited in 1944. Many people don't know that the airport originally was a U.S. military airstrip during WWII.

There is no way to mess up a picture on Maho Beach. Due to the excellent natural lighting conditions, you are almost guaranteed to get good photos with any style of camera. Pro tip: The middle of the day is the best time to take photos here, it makes the turquoise color in the water really show!

Whether you're a passenger, pilot, or plane spotter, put the Saint Martin/Sint Maarten Princess Juliana airport as a stop on your bucket list. Sit on Maho beach, relax, enjoy some food, and your favorite beverage. If you can't afford to come here, do it on a flight simulator! Until next time... Fly safe, and remember "life is worth flying for!"
