Welcome to The Pack, Delta Golf
Dana Brejakova, Contributing Writer & Photographer

According to one famous saying, there are only two happy days in an aviator's life. The first one is when he/she buys an airplane and the second one is when he/she sells it.

And so the two happiest days in aviator's life were celebrated once again when one sold his beloved bird and the other bough it. Our friend Dennis was the one who bought, and so my story begins. It was no secret that Jimmy the Squirrel and I were super stoked to welcome a new Husky to the pack! Jimmy's Aviat Husky A-1B was getting lonely around the T-hangars and it has been quite some time since we had a wing man for our bush flying adventures. What better way to celebrate and welcome the new bird than taking her for a first bush flying adventure on a Sunday morning. The plan was to fly to Timberon airfield located in a close proximity of the beautiful Lincoln National Forest in New Mexico. Perfect!

Isn't she a beautiful bird? Classy red and white paint job with black accents does this bush plane a lot of justice. I just love them Huskies.
Happy good looking bush plane roaring alongside our Husky.
Yup, she fits right in. The local desert topography suits her well. Dennis and his friend were having a blast just like Jimmy and I were.
While cruising around and enjoying our "welcome to the pack" flight I got mesmerized by the terrain that can be found only in our part of the world.
Almost like a snap shot from a distant planet.
The hills with detailed marble texture reminded me so much of my favorite pastries and suddenly I was getting hungry.
Marble cake, anyone? I would like a slice, please! Thank goodness I packed my power bars.
The desert biome will never stop amazing me. Such beautiful wide-open spaces around us.
I wonder what caused these concentric circles to appear here like this? ALIENS!!! LOL
Charming little corridor.
Detail of vegetation.
Slowly but surely the topography started changing its looks.
Soon we crossed the point where the low and dry desert terrain turned into green hills - an indicator we were getting close to our final destination. The hills below us looked like a velvet duvet was thrown over them. What a beautiful day, what a wonderful flight!
Last left turn and we were landing. Jimmy was aligning his Husky and I looked down only to spot a charming dirt road that was cutting through the forest below us.
The fields of gold surrounded by emerald forests were a perfect setting for landing.
Huskies in their element. Nature is what these birds crave, and boy, does it fit them.
There she was bathing in the morning sun. Three blade MT propeller attached to 180 horse power Lycoming engine was now happily chilling out with us.
What would a good bush plane be without Alaskan Bushwheels? Those tundra tires mean business, let me tell you. Its floatation properties secure smooth landings even on the surfaces where other aircraft would sink. These babies are a must if you want to do what we do. These ones are "only" 29 inch which are a bit smaller than Jimmy's 31 inch.

Jimmy likes to joke around that the shorter the pilot the bigger the tires, which may give you some picture on Dennis's and Jimmy's height. Me, with my almost 6 feet I qualify as Jimmy's pitot tube cover first officer and I proudly execute my duties before and after the flight.

And here we have a sturdy Baby Bushwheel tail wheel completing the set of Alaskan tundra tires. Yup, this bird has it all.
The birds posing for a tail photo. It is official, now we have a Husky squadron in T-hangars. Gosh golly, how wonderful is that?
This one is funny, figuratively and literally speaking. A few years ago, Jimmy the Squirrel realized that those crazy red clown noses one can buy in pharmacies to support a good cause could also serve as a high-performance cover for the super sharp edges of the flap hinges. So Jimmy bought some, installed them, performed a flight without losing a single nose and the stylish improvement was born. Guess what the welcome gift for Dennis was? Yes, six pieces of red clown noses.
Jimmy's clown noses. LOL
I love the simple and classy paint job on this Husky. Something about the white, red, and black combo. If you look closer you can see the fresh batch of bugs splats too. Well, its mostly a white aircraft, therefore, bugs splats extravaganza!
Black leather Oregon Aero seats with a detail of precise stitching of Husky in grey and black hues. I love the look of those seats. I love this new Husky, period.

To sum up, welcome, little bird. We are happy to have you in the pack. A lot of wonderful adventures are ahead of us. So blue skies, tail winds, and air as smooth as glass!
