Wings Over Gillespie entrance

The annual Wings over Gillespie event in El Cajon California is always much greater than what you expect from the smaller regional air shows spread across the country.

Entry Fee - 20 bucks or a pint of your blood (left). The CAF organized it all (right).

Event Chairman Bob Simon's Beautiful Stearman, an eleven year restoration and named after his equally beautiful wife D'Marie (left). A1-E The Viet Nam Workhorse (right).

P-51D Red Dog.

The organizers never fail to garner an exiting array of aircraft topped off by such attractions as the so rare flying B-17 "Sentimental Journey", available again this year for tours and rides.

Take a ride in the Sentimental Journey. The B-17 carried only 6-8 bombs at 300 mpoh

The fact that near perfect flying weather seems always available in southern California never hurts the turn out of both aircraft and visitors.

Green Giant

A large crowd was on hand all days of the fly-in/airshow enjoying the static displays and tours while reveling in the many low passes staged by most of the most interesting aircraft.

It wasn't all aircraft.
