Hank Snow
A Gathering of Legends

Harold Snow was born September 23, 1923 in AuSable Forks, New York. He graduated from High School in 1941 and is a United States Air Force Retiree with 30 Years of service.

Snow attended Preflight, Primary, Basic and Advanced Flying Training with Class 43-I in 1943 and received his commission as a Second Lieutenant and was given his Pilot’s Wings on October 1, 1943.

He also completed the following educational courses: College Level General Educational Development Test (1951); the Radar Fighter Interceptor Controller Course (1951); USAF Fighter Weapons School (1955); USAF All-Weather-Fighter Interceptor School (1955); USAF Air Command and Staff College (1959-1960); US Army Parachutist School (1964); USAF Land, Sea, and Jungle Survival Schools; USAF Fighter Aircraft Schools (F-51, F-105, and F-4E); FAA Commercial Pilot, Certified Flight Instructor for Instruments and Single/Multi-Engine Aircraft (LAND)

Snow’s military command experience includes: Commander of Ground Radar Facility (1954); Commander of Combat Crew All-Weather Jet Training Squadron (T-33 and F-86 D/L Aircraft-1955-1959); Commander of Tactical Fighter Squadron (F-100 Aircraft – 1963-1965); Air Liaison Officer with US Army in Vietnam (1965-1966); Deputy of Operations of Tactical Fighter Wings (F-105 Aircraft –1969-1970 and F-4E Aircraft 1970-1972)

His military staff positions include: Chief of Combat Operations for the Air Defense of the Hawaiian Islands (1960-1963); Combat Operations Staff Officer in Pentagon, Washington, D.C., responsible for development and management of Command and Control functions for a Presidential/ Secretary of Defense Top Secret project involving infiltration routes in Southeast Asia; Responsible for providing weekly oral progress reports to the Secretary of the Air Force and Chief of Staff (USAF) and, on one occasion, Snow briefed the Joint Chiefs of Staff (1966-1968).

His combat experience includes 100 Tactical Fighter Missions- China, Burma and India (1944-1945); 101 Tactical Fighter Missions – Korea (1952)’ 335 Air Liaison/Forward Air Controller Missions- Vietnam (1965-1966); 130 Tactical Fighter Missions-Thailand (1969-1970); One combat Parachute jump- Vietnam – (1966) in the 1,000 Man Assault with Army of Vietnam (ARVN) Forces 50 miles north of Saigon in War Zone C.

Snow’s honors and decorations include the Legion of Merit, the Distinguished Flying Cross (awarded six times), the Bronze Star, the Air Medal (awarded 24 times), the Air Commendation Medal, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Silver Star, the Vietnam Medal of honor, the Vietnam Staff Service Medal, the Presidential Unit Citation 2, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award -Combat Readiness Medal

His flying experience includes 14,000 hours total time with 2,200 hours as an instructor pilot, 125 hours instruments (845 actual weather), 1,400 hours at night, 1,602 hours in combat

Snow has been a certified Flight Instructor for Single and Multi-Engine Land Aircraft to include Instruments (1972-1999) and an Air Show Stunt Pilot (J-3 Cub & Pitts Special) Low Level Aerobatics, including car top Landings and a fly through House Act (1974-1984).

He has been FAA Certified for FAR-135 Operations (Air Taxi) (1972-1999) and served as President and Chief Pilot of North Country Aviation, Inc.
